Why have therapy with a Clinical Psychologist?

As a Clinical Psychologist, I focus on supporting you with the current difficulties that are having an impact on your life. I do this by gaining a detailed understanding of your life and aspects you feel are important. At times, distressing emotions, thoughts, or feelings that you may be encountering in the here and now, can be associated with early life experiences and how you have learnt to think about yourself or others. Such beliefs are developed by what we observe, hear, and see from those around us. Without even realising, we can start to see life through a self-critical lens that takes away the enjoyment and meaning from our life. Together, we develop a deeper understanding of why these difficulties may have developed and what is keeping you feeling stuck in this cycle.
Once we have gained a detailed understanding of how the present difficulties have developed, we can focus on what the best way to empower you to deal with these difficulties. As a clinical psychologist, my doctorate level of training in a variety of different therapeutic approaches enables me to draw upon a wide range of psychological models that can be tailored to your specific needs. This allows for each intervention to be better matched to your difficulty and helping you in your recovery.
I may be a clinical psychologist, but I am just like you and have my ups and downs in life. The difference is that I now have the tools to be better able to manage them when they arise. Supporting you to better understand your difficulties and providing you with some strategies of how to manage this is what I love about my job. Should you feel you would like to start your journey of recovery with me alongside you, my commitment to you as a client is that I will listen to you and support you to work out and implement a plan for your recovery. Together, we will establish what you wish to achieve during our sessions to help you become happier, more confident and more fulfilled in your life.
